Alex Murdaugh defense attorneys announce lawsuit
Alex Murdaugh. His defense team spoke today after the South Carolina Supreme Court overturned his double murder conviction last week due to procedural errors. The overturning was a result of misconduct by a county clerk that tainted the jury process. During the press conference, Murdaugh's lead defense attorneys, Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin, announced a federal civil rights lawsuit against former clerk Rebecca Hill to hold her accountable. The attorneys also questioned the state's potential pursuit of the death penalty, firmly rejected the possibility of a plea deal, and addressed uninvestigated DNA evidence ahead of an expected retrial.
