MIRAC demands ICE cooperation penalties in MPD contract
The Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee (MIRAC) is advocating for stronger sanctuary protections in Minneapolis, particularly in relation to the city's police contract negotiations with the Police Federation. The group is calling for "real, enforceable consequences" for any Minneapolis police officer who cooperates with ICE. Robin Wonsley, a Minneapolis City Council member, said they want to hold officers accruable to protect our immigrant neighbors. Jason Chavez, a Minneapolis City Council member, and Elliott Payne, Minneapolis City Council president, also spoke at the press conference.
