Biden commutes sentences of 37 people on death row
President Joe Biden commuted the sentences of 37 of the 40 people on federal death row, converting their punishments to life imprisonment. It comes weeks before President-elect Donald Trump will take office. Trump has been an outspoken proponent of expanding capital punishment. There are now just three federal inmates still facing execution: Dylann Roof, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and Robert Bowers.
