Minneapolis City Council President Andrea Jenkins explains why she wrote a poem critical of Dave Chappelle
An artist and performer in her own right, Jenkins became the first Black openly transgender woman elected to public office in the United States when she joined the city council in 2018 and became the council president this year. While she admires Chapelle's work, she thinks the skepticism he has voiced about trans identity and trans women has real-world consequences he should consider. This interview was filmed before Chappelle's show at First Avenue was moved to a new venue.
