Adele is saying ‘hello’ to the big screen.
The singer-songwriter will be making her acting debut in Tom Ford’s new film "Cry to Heaven." Deadline was the first media outlet to confirm the news.
Adele making acting debut in Tom Ford movie
What we know:
According to Deadline, the screenplay has been written by Ford, who is also directing and producing through his Fade To Black production company.
Set in 18th century Italy, the fictional story follows two men, a Venetian noble and an Opera singer, whose lives become unexpectedly intertwined.
Adele is just one part of a large ensemble cast that includes Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, George MacKay, Colin Firth, Paul Bettany, "Adolescence" breakout Owen Cooper and Hunter Schafer, though no details were immediately available about their specific roles.
"Cry to Heaven" will be the third feature for Ford, who made his directing debut with the romantic drama "A Single Man" in 2009, followed by the psychological thriller "Nocturnal Animals" in 2016. The movie is currently in pre-production for a release in late fall 2026.
As with his previous features, Ford is financing "Cry to Heaven" himself. In 2016, he told The Associated Press: "I will only ever make a movie if I control the underlying rights."
What we don't know:
It is unclear when the film will be released, but the film is currently in pre-production in London and Rome, and principal photography is set to begin in mid-January for an anticipated late autumn 2026 release, according to Deadline.
Adele announces hiatus from music
The backstory:
This announcement comes one year after Adele said she was taking a break from performing for awhile.
A fan shared a video on TikTok of the singer during a performance in Munich, Germany, where she said she was planning a lengthy break after her Las Vegas residency.
"I have 10 shows to do, but after that I will not see you for an incredibly long time, and I will hold you dear in my heart," she said.

Last year, the Grammy-winner also told Germany’s ZDF public broadcast service she was looking to do other "creative things."
"I don’t have any plans for new music at all," she told the outlet. "I want a big break after this, and I think I want to do other creative things, just for a little while."

She also told the outlet, "I don’t like being famous. I love that I get to make music all the time."
Adele is a 15-time Grammy-award winner, whose biggest hits include "Hello," "Chasing Pavements," "Rolling in the Deep" and the Oscar-winning "Skyfall."
