FDA approval of Covid Vaccine spurs new questions about “off label” use

The FDA approved the Pfizer COVID vaccine for people over the age of 16. The vaccine is still under Emergency Use Authorization for those ages 12-16. However, the FDA’s approval opens the door for “off label” use of the vaccine, which means it legally can be prescribed for children under the age of 12. FOX9 spoke with Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Kirsten Neilson Dougherty of Wayzata Children’s Clinic, who agrees with the guidance from the FDA and AAP. She says parents with kids under 12 should wait until trials are complete. She says there are still too many questions about dosages, and too much vaccine can put kids at higher risk of side effects.
