Minnesota Aurora partners with Minneapolis Institute of Art for new kit
What we know:
The Minnesota Aurora soccer team has teamed up with the Minneapolis Institute of Art to create one of their new kit designs.
Tattoo artist and designer Lindsay Knoll was chosen to design the kit, giving her a unique chance to see her art worn in a whole new way.
Aurora FC President Saara Hassoun said, "The design of the kit is really reflective of our identity here at Minnesota Aurora you know in being grounded in Minnesota and grounded in our community and looking to really represent the diversity of all of those pieces right you look at the natural wildlife you look at all of the incredible flora and fauna we have here in Minnesota."
Bobby Rogers, head of design at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, said, "As we were developing the two concepts, more and more I started to realize that Lindsay, more than anyone that I knew, had this way of capturing natural foliage, capturing natural landscapes. Not so much as much as you see them, but really how they feel."
The kit’s design is rooted in Minnesota’s landscape, featuring plants like lupine, coneflower, wild rice and the lady slipper.
Knoll said, "I think there are some plants that really kind of emphasize the strength and resilience of Minnesota.
Every detail in the new kit was chosen to reflect the team’s connection to Minnesota and its community.
Art and sports come together on and off the field
Why you should care:
Hassoun said, "I think if you are watching a soccer game, you're watching what happens on the field. To me, it looks like art, right, the way that the players are moving and flowing and you know, we call it the ‘beautiful game’ here in soccer."
Rogers added, "My idea for the jersey is that anyone would want to wear it, not just the soccer head, but like, there might be someone who might not be into soccer right now, but see the jersey and love it and that might be their introduction into the culture."
The collaboration between Minnesota Aurora and the Minneapolis Institute of Art is described as a natural pairing, blending the worlds of art and sports for fans and newcomers alike.
The kits will be available for fans to buy online starting Friday, giving everyone a chance to wear a piece of Minnesota’s story.
