Man dies after SUV hits semi-truck at Kandiyohi County intersection

A 44-year-old man is dead after his SUV collided with a semi-truck at a rural Kandiyohi County intersection on Saturday.

What we know:

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office received a report of a two-vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of County Road 2 and County Road 33 in Roseville Township at 1:51 p.m. Saturday.

According to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office, an SUV driven by a 44-year-old man was heading eastbound on County Road 33 when it struck a semi-truck pulling a trailer that was traveling northbound on County Road 2. The semi was driven by a 67-year-old man.

Members of the New London Fire Department and the Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad had to extricate the SUV driver from the vehicle. Emergency personnel from New London Ambulance and CentraCare Ambulance provided emergency care on scene. Despite those efforts, the 44-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office, the 67-year-old semi driver was treated on scene and released.

What we don't know:

The names are being withheld pending notification of family. The crash remains under investigation.
