Former Vice President Kamala Harris intimated that she might make another for the White House in 2028.

Harris addressed the topic of running for president while at the National Action Network Convention on April 10. When asked whether she would run again, she told Rev. Al Sharpton, "Listen, I might, I might. I’m thinking about it," adding that "I’ll keep you posted," Politico reported.

Where does Kamala Harris stand in early polling among voters?

Dig deeper:

While Harris didn’t definitively state if she plans to run for office again, some early polls have her as a top presidential pick for 2028.

Harvard Caps Harris Poll

A March survey by the Harvard Caps Harris Poll shows Kamala Harris has an early lead among candidates for president. The poll was conducted online on March 25–26 among 2,009 registered voters.

Respondents to the survey also weighed in on who they would support as the Democratic and Republican presidential candidate in 2028.

When asked who they would favor to be the Democratic candidate for president, 41% of Democrats selected Kamala Harris, compared to 26% who chose Gavin Newsom.

Among Republicans, 42% said they support Vice President JD Vance as their choice for the GOP's candidate for president, followed by 20% for President Donald Trump.

Another section of the survey assessed which political figure had the highest overall favorability among Harris, Trump, Vance, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and political pundit Tucker Carlson.

Harris had the highest score among the group at 43%, followed by Trump (42%), Vance (41%), Kennedy Jr. (40%), and Carlson (24%).

Yale Youth Poll

The Yale Youth Poll released on April 14 surveyed an online sample of 3,429 registered voters between March 9 and March 23.

Voters in the survey were asked their selections for potential 2028 presidential candidates. Approximately 20% of respondents chose Harris, followed by Newsom (19%), Pete Buttigieg (14%), and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (13%). And Vance led the pack with 43% Republican support as a presidential candidate.

UMASS Lowell/YouGov poll

And in a separate poll conducted by UMASS Lowell/YouGov, researchers surveyed Americans forecasting how Harris may fare against other candidates who might enter the 2028 presidential race.

Respondents in this survey were asked which political figure they favor, which included Harris, Vance, Carlson, Kennedy Jr. Newsom.

Harris had a favorability rating of 35% among Americans, 74% among Democrats compared to 23% of independents, and only 7% of Republicans.

Conversely, respondents to the poll were asked who they would vote for if the presidential election was held today. Some of their choices included Vance, Carlson, and Newsom.

Approximately 36% of Americans said they would vote for Vance compared to 33% for Newsom. Among political parties, 79% of Republicans said they would vote for Vance, compared to only 4% of Democrats, and 20% of independents.

And 76% of Democrats said they would vote for Newsom, compared to just 6% of Republicans, and 18% of independents.

For Carlson, roughly 25% of Americans said they would vote for him if the presidential election was held today, compared to 54% of Republicans, 2% of Democrats, and 16% of independents.

The UMASS Lowell/YouGov poll consisted of 1,000 Americans and was conducted between March 26 and March 30. UMass Lowell is a public institution and releases surveys as a source of public information.
