Artemis II: Orion reaches closest approach to Moon

On April 6, 2026, the Orion spacecraft reached its closest approach to the Moon, an approximate altitude of 4,067 miles above the moon’s lunar surface – at a mission elapsed time (MET) of five days, 24 minutes and 34 seconds, during the Artemis II mission.
