Canada strikes back with new tariffs on US
Canada is responding to US tariffs with new tariffs of its own, with Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne saying Canada will match the United States “dollar for dollar, rate for rate.” The escalating US-Canada trade dispute targets goods including steel, aluminum and farm products and threatens higher costs for consumers in both countries. The new tariffs are set to take effect Sept. 8, leaving time for a potential deal.
