The sheriff said Tania Harris, 18, was shot by police as she chased another woman while wielding a large knife.

Harris is in stable condition at an area hospital with two gunshot wounds to her abdomen. No officers were injured during the incident.

Black Lives Matter Minneapolis released a statement Friday morning, citing Tania's mother as saying her daughters was unarmed at the time of the shooting. The family held a news conference Friday afternoon, where they said it is now apparent Tania was carrying a knife, but they maintain she should not have been shot.

"We call upon our government officials to conduct a rigorous investigation into the shooting of Tania Harris to ensure the officer who did this is held accountable," the group said in a statement. "Enough is enough. State sanctioned violence against black people here in Minnesota and nationally must end."
