Tuition-free pre-K push brings Gov. Dayton to St. Paul school

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton visited Expo Elementary School in St. Paul on Tuesday to underscore the district's 500-student pre-K waiting list as he makes a push for universal, tuition-free preschool.

Early education is a big part of both the governor's spending plan and the Republican budget targets. The governor's $343 million plan was countered with a Republican plan that would fund need-based scholarships for preschool and other programs.

Statewide pre-K funding would allow Expo Elementary to lift its 20-student cap.
