MAPLE GROVE, Minn. (KMSP) - On Saturday night, Holly Brown went from waiting tables to helping save a life. Holly was working at Perkins, in Maple Grove, when a co-worker told her a man was on the ground in the parking lot. Holly, who just finished EMT school, ran outside.
“The guy was completely pale, gray, wasn’t breathing. I checked his pulse. He didn’t have one. So I started CPR, got on the phone with dispatch,” Holly told Fox 9.
Eventually, police arrived and brought out an AED. However, the AED said a shock wasn’t needed, so Holly continued CPR until paramedics arrived.
“I went straight into it. I didn’t have time to hesitate. Didn’t have time to think or get scared. I just did it,” Holly said. “I just pressed on his chest for ten minutes. That’s not that big of a deal. [The paramedics] are the ones who do this everyday.”
The paramedics applied an opiate antidote to the young man, likely suffering a heroin overdose.
And then Holly went back to finish her shift.
“My adrenaline was so high after that. I kept working, I had a few more tables to finish up. But I kept dropping a lot of stuff, and I kept forgetting stuff,” Holly said. “I didn’t count my tips after. I just went straight home.”
Holly plans to become a paramedic.
