There’s no good time for road closures, but the Minnesota Department of Transportation may have picked the worst possible time to begin lane closures on Interstate 394 in Minneapolis. Friday’s 10 p.m. lane closures coincide with a flood of traffic in downtown Minneapolis for a Twins home game and the Basilica Block Party.

MnDOT defended the 10 p.m. closure by saying its crews need to take advantage of every possible minute during the project window.

394 closure details

Westbound lanes of Interstate 394 will close at 10 p.m. Friday, July 10. The westbound closure will last 2 weeks.

All westbound traffic from downtown Minneapolis will be directed onto the reversible MnPASS lanes.

The closure is needed to repair concrete in the general traffic lanes between Highway 100 and Interstate 94.

When the westbound repair work is complete, the eastbound lanes will close for 2 weeks, backing up inbound traffic and traffic using Lowry Tunnel to get from the west metro to I-94 and 35W.
