Girl loses family in fire, asks for cards this Christmas

A little girl who survived a fire that claimed the lives of her father and three siblings has just one wish for Christmas this year. She’d like Christmas cards, at least 100 of them, so she can fill her new card tree.

And thanks to those closest to her, thousands of strangers are working to make sure her holiday wish comes true.

It all started with a simple post on social media earlier this month.

“I wonder how many of my friends would take the time to write and send Safyre a Merry Christmas card that she can hang on her card tree....,” Facebook user Kevin Clark wrote on December 4, along with her address:

“Safyre
P.O. Box 6126
Schenectady NY 12306”

The post was then shared by Safyre Schenectady's Super Survivor Facebook page, and by more than 18,000 others, within just five days.

The Super Survivor page was set up for Safyre after she became the sole member of her family to survive an arson fire at their Schenectady, NY home two years ago.

According to Buzzfeed News, Safyre, 6 at the time, was found next to her father, who used his body to shield her from the flames. She still suffered burns to 75 percent of her body.

She’s been in the care of her aunt ever since, who told Buzzfeed News that her life post incident has been tough. She’s undergone more than 50 operations, and lost her right hand and her left foot.

But it hasn't all been bad. She's had her remaining family members and her local community rooting for her every step of the way, and now, this Christmas, they hope she’ll receive a little holiday cheer from all around the world, too.

Those wishing to send a card should mail them to the following address:
