Local chapter reacts to Boy Scouts accepting girls

Starting in 2018, girls will be able to join the Cub Scouts, the first of multiple changes allowing girls into Boy Scout programs.

“As an organization that’s committed to positive youth development we see this as another way to offer more choice to families,” said Kent York with Northern Star Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Increasing interest among young girls and families in the Boy Scouts is one reason why York believes the change was made. A new program will also allow young girls to pursue the rank of Eagle Scout.

“We believe we are in this all together and for what’s best for the kids,” said York.
