A house in Brooklyn Park, Minn. caught on fire after it was struck by lightning during the thunderstorms that came through the Twin Cities Thursday morning.

Crews responded to a house fire on the 1900 block of Meadowwood Court. The fire started on the roof after the house was struck by lightning, Brooklyn Park Fire Department battalion chief Rob Miller said.

The fire was quickly extinguished with the help of multiple fire departments.

The two adults and two children who lived in the home were able to make it out safely. Two cats were also in the home at the time of the fire, but officials have been unable to locate them. Miller said it is believed the cats escaped when the residents opened the door to get out.

The fire caused extensive damage to the roof, rendering the house unlivable for the time being.
