Drunk man impaled by fence after fall from second-story hot tub

Golden Valley police confirmed an intoxicated 30-year-old man fell from a second-story hot tub and was impaled by a metal fence post Saturday night. Police and fire crews responded to the 800 block of Sumter Avenue South around 11:39 p.m. and discovered the man had fallen from the side of the hot tub and landed atop the pointed end of a metal fence post, Sgt. Dave Born said.

The wrought iron post went through the man's upper thigh. Other people in the hot tub, which sits on a deck, were able to call for medical assistance.

The man supported himself until first responders arrived, and was conscious when the fire department used jaws of life and a cutting tool to cut a section of the fence out of his leg, but part remained impaled. He was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale and his current condition is unknown at this time, though police said he was in a lot of pain during the ordeal.

The man's identity has not been released.

Police said this is not their first visit to the home, which neighbors call a "party house." Twice in 2015, officers have responded to noise complaints.
