TIMELINE: I-94 reconstruction between downtown St. Paul, Maplewood

A major Minnesota Department of Transportation reconstruction project along Interstate 94 between downtown St. Paul and Maplewood could clog your commute this summer.

Timeline

This spring through fall of 2017, crews will resurface a five-mile stretch of eastbound and westbound I-94 between Mounds Boulevard to east of Highway120/Century Avenue.

According to MnDOT, at least two lanes will be open in each direction and another lane during rush hour in the morning and afternoon.

Project details

-Resurface eastbound and westbound I-94 between Mounds Boulevard to east of Highway120/Century Avenue

-Build a new auxiliary lane and extend the existing auxiliary lane along eastbound I-94 between the exit to East 7th Street and the entrance from Mounds Boulevard.

-Construct two emergency pull-off sites along eastbound I-94 between the exit to East 7th Street and the entrance from Mounds Boulevard

-Resurface Highway 61 from north of Burns Avenue to Highway 5

-Create trail connections at McKnight Road and Century Avenue

-Update signals and pedestrian access

-Build a new noise wall and replace part of an existing noise wall between Conway Street and Maple Street

-Repair bridges

Public meeting

MnDOT will hold a residential open house on Wednesday, March 30 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Sun Ray Public Library, 2105 Wilson Avenue in St. Paul.
