Minneapolis apartment deaths ruled murder-suicide
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - The Minneapolis police department is investigating after two adults were found dead in the city's Longfellow neighborhood Thursday, according to a release from the department.
Officers responded to the scene around 3 p.m. after witnesses found the bodies of a man and a woman in a second floor apartment on the 2700 block of Cedar Avenue South, officials said.
The woman has been identified as 35-year-old Martina Lopez Garcia. Her death was ruled a homicide.
The man has been identified as 35-year-old Homero Lopez Salinas. His death was ruled a suicide.
Investigators later learned from the two witnesses that the deceased had shared a previous romantic relationship, and that one of them lived at the apartment where they were found.
"What I want people to understand is that there's always help out there," MPD spokesperson Corey Schmidt said at a press conference near the site of the incident. "If you're in a relationship that is physically violent or is not healthy ... reach out to the police department, reach out to domestic abuse programs and we can help get you to somewhere you will be safe."
Police also said that the incident is isolated and that no other suspects are wanted in relation to the deaths, meaning that there is no danger to the public.
