7 students injured in St. Paul bus crash

Seven students from Highland Park Middle School and Highland Park Senior High School in St. Paul were taken to the hospital with minor injuries after their school bus crashed near the intersection of Geranium Avenue and Weide Street after school Friday. The crash happened at about 2:45 p.m.

The school bus came to rest at the front steps of a home and a pickup truck involved in the crash was flipped on its side in the yard.

According to St. Paul police, drugs or alcohol were not factors in the crash.

According to a St. Paul Public Schools official, 34 students were on the bus at the time and each one was examined by paramedics at the scene. The students were from both Highland Park Middle School and Highland Park Senior High School. All of the students' families have been notified. The students who did not need to be sent to the hospital were picked up by family members or put on a different bus home.

"While accidents do happen, we are fortunate that, from initial reports, all those involved appear to okay. We'd like to thank our First Responders for the fast care and attention they provided to our students," said Jackie Turner, Chief Operating Officer for Saint Paul Public Schools in an press release.

On Monday, the school nurses will check in with all the students who were on the bus during the crash.
