Highland Park's Josh Aune signs with U of M football

A St. Paul high school football standout officially committed to the University of Minnesota.
Highland Park senior Josh Aune signed a letter of intent before a large crowd Wednesday afternoon in the school's gym.

The 6’2’’ 200 lbs safety is the first football player in the district to commit to a scholarship with the university since 2003.

Known for his versatility and power on the field, Aune said that he passed on several offers just to play Division I football here at home.

“I’ve been waiting on this my whole life; ever since I was a little boy I knew that, and now to finally make it official, it’s a blessing, it’s an honor,” Aune said.

Aune said he hopes to have a big impact on the football team, but outside of sports, he's thinking about majoring in engineering.
