Fischbach officially acting Lt. Gov., plans to keep Senate seat

Sen. Michelle Fischbach became acting Lieutenant Governor Wednesday.

In a letter to the Governor’s Office, Fischbach said she will not give up her Senate seat.

“My primary focus will continue to be serving the citizens of Senate District 13 in the Minnesota Senate, who elected me to a four-year term,” Fischbach said.

Fischbach also declined the Lt. Governor salary since she plans to stay in the Senate.

“I am confident I will be able to handle duties as both State Senator and acting Lieutenant Governor through the remaining months of Gov. Dayton’s term,” she wrote in a statement.

Fischbach became Lt. Governor following Sen. Tina Smith’s resignation. Smith was appointed to replace former Sen. Al Franken who officially resigned his Senate seat Tuesday, following allegations of sexual misconduct.
