Charges: Maple Grove man shot girlfriend in face with shotgun
Mitchell Antil, 52, of Maple Grove, Minnesota is charged with second degree attempted murder for intentionally shooting his girlfriend in the face with a shotgun.
MAPLE GROVE, Minn. (KMSP) - A Maple Grove, Minnesota man has been charged with second degree attempted murder for allegedly shooting his girlfriend in the face with a shotgun on Oct. 5.
Police responded to a home on the 9100 block of Comstock Lane in Maple Grove around 8:20 p.m. after neighbors reported hearing several gunshots, according to the charges. A female victim had emerged from the house with a serious gunshot wound to her face and a second gunshot wound to her left arm.
The female victim told the neighbor her boyfriend, later identified as 52-year-old Mitchell Antil, had shot her. The victim lived with Antil at the home on Comstock Lane and the two had been in a romantic relationship for several years.
Police also received a second emergency call related to the incident from Antil himself, calling from inside the home. Antil identified himself as “Mitch” and told police he have shot a woman twice with a buck shot, once in the heart and once in the head.
Officers maintaining surveillance on the house saw Antil standing in the patio window holding a shotgun.
Antil agreed to exit the residence unarmed and was arrested shortly thereafter. He admitted to shooting the victim as she entered the kitchen from the garage service door after leaving the house to have a cigarette. Antil told police he had locked the doors to prevent her from getting back inside and armed himself with a loaded shotgun.
Antil told police he “knew what he was doing, that he wanted to kill her,” according to the charges.
