Accumulating snow becoming more likely over the weekend

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - While it’s been a meager snow season so far for the metro, our love of white is about to get kicked into high gear as snow will move in later Saturday and stick around through much of your Sunday.  While this won’t be a ground breaking storm, this will be a long duration light snow event that will add up over time.  In fact, snow could be flying across the metro for a solid 18 hours and we could get more snow in this one storm than we have seen so far this season.

The snow should begin shortly after sunset Saturday night with the heaviest snows falling overnight and early on Sunday before tapering off sometime Sunday afternoon.  When it’s over, the metro will likely have a fresh 3”-6” of the white stuff on the ground, with the lower end totals likely hitting the north metro, and the higher end in the south metro.  Continue south toward the I-90 corridor, widespread amounts of 5 to 8 inches look likely, with up to 10” possible.  Heading north toward cabin country and the overall snows will wane with just a couple inches or less expected from the Brainerd Lakes area northward.

Once the snow is over, it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon as we dip even further into the freezer next week.
