Snow timeline: Twin Cities could get 6 to 9 inches Wednesday

(FOX 9) - Another snow storm expected to roll in to the Twin Cities Wednesday could push the month's snow total into record-setting territory.

The metro has been upgraded from a Winter Storm Watch to a Winter Storm Warning from midnight Tuesday through 6 p.m. Wednesday. The snow is expected to roll in after midnight Tuesday and taper off into Wednesday evening. 

Total snowfall accumulations of six to nine inches can be expected within the warning area. Snow will be heavy at times, particularly during the Wednesday morning rush. 

Snowfall is expected to continue through much of the day on Wednesday, potentially with rates around 1 inch per hour. Snowfall will diminish Wednesday afternoon and evening, but will likely still impact the evening rush. 

METRO SNOW TIMELINE

Tuesday night: Clouds build, snow develops late and pushes into the metro after 3 a.m., less than 1 inch at start of commute.

Wednesday morning commute: Heavy snow bursts possible at times. Even with little on the ground, as cars clog roads, MnDOT trucks won’t be able to clear the roadways easily.  Visibilities will also be reduced.

Wednesday 10am – 4pm: Heavier pulses of morning snow give way to rolling lulls in the afternoon.

Wednesday evening commute: Only a few light flakes and flurries left to taper off, but with 6 to 9 inches or more of fresh snow, obviously things will be VERY slow.
