Second degree murder charge added against former Minneapolis officer Mohamed Noor

Former Minneapolis police officer Mohamed Noor is charged with third degree murder and second degree manslaughter in the fatal officer-involved shooting of Justine Damond last July.

A Hennepin County District Judge is allowing prosecutors to add a second degree intentional murder charge against former Minneapolis police officer Mohamed Noor.

Noor was previously charged with third degree murder and second degree manslaughter in the shooting death of Justine Damond Ruszcyzk.

On Nov. 29, Hennepin County prosecutors filed a motion to add the charge, arguing there is evidence Noor intended to kill Damond when he aimed and fired at her.

Friday, Judge Kathryn Quaintance ordered the new charge be added after the defense did not respond to the filing.

A jury trial is scheduled to begin on April 1.
