Man dies after jumping from bridge during police chase in St. Paul

A police chase through St. Paul ended in one man's death after he stopped his car and jumped from the Lafayette Bridge Thursday night, according to police.

The chase started around 10:45 p.m. on Concord Street heading west toward Highway 52, with both the West St. Paul and St. Paul Police Departments in pursuit.

After stopping on the bridge, the man left his car and jumped over the east railing, landing in a grassy area between the river and Shepard Road. Officers attempted to render aid but the man was pronounced dead on scene. 

The incident is still under investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
