FOUND: 27-year-old woman missing from Fergus Falls group home

- Update (9:00 a.m.) - Shaylia Helland has been found safe and returned to her family, the Fergus Falls Police Department confirmed. 

Fergus Falls Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a vulnerable adult who left her group home last Friday and may be headed toward New Jersey or Dallas.

Shaylia Helland, 27, appears to be getting rides from truck drivers and has been seen waiting at truck stops for another ride. She was last known to be at the Rogers Truck Stop in Rogers, Minnesota on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 a.m. Her current whereabouts are unknown. 

Authorities believe Helland may be using what she believes is her Cherokee name, Akechhta Halona. She told a truck driver from Fergus Falls that she was fleeing an abusive relationship in Canada.

According to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Shaylia is under the guardianship of her parents. She suffers from some mental illness and walks very bow-legged. She is approximately 5'6" tall, weighs 150 pounds and has blond hair and green eyes.
