Kaler, task force recommend changing names of 4 campus buildings to U of M Regents

University of Minnesota President Eric Kaler

The University of Minnesota Board of Regents received recommendations to rename four buildings on the Twin Cities campus in a meeting Friday.

The Regents reviewed a task force report on building names and institutional history Friday and received a letter from President Eric Kaler that both recommended renaming the four buildings.

The Board of Regents has the full authority to name buildings or remove existing names and the board is expected to act on the recommendations at an upcoming meeting.

The task force reviewed the names of Coffey Hall, Coffman Memorial Union, Middlebrook Hall and Nicholson Hall in the report, recommending to remove all four names.

The task force has completed its charge and will now dissolve, but some of its members will move on to the permanent Advisory Committee on University History, which will be named this spring.
