Human remains found west of Bemidji, suspects identified

A death investigation is underway near Bemidji, Minnesota following the discovery of human remains, according to the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating an area in Eckles Township, which is just west of Bemidji.

On Monday, authorities received information that a possible missing person had traveled to Beltrami County from the Twin Cities. Authorities later located the missing person's vehicle at the Palace Casino in Cass County. Officials then identified two people of interest.

The two were interviewed and, according to a release, "information was gathered throughout the evening that led investigators to believe a crime of violence had taken place" at a residence where the two people live together.

Officials obtained a warrant and searched the area, where they found what they believe to be the remains of two people.

One of the suspects was arrested for un-related criminal charges.

Family of the missing person and the acquaintance - one from the Twin Cities Metro area and the other from the Duluth-Superior area - have been contacted by authorities.

The investigation is ongoing.
