ROCHESTER, Minn. (KMSP) - Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton, who initially said an Oct. 15 back surgery would keep him at Mayo Clinic for a few days, has finally revealed that he's been at the facility for the past month.
Gov. Dayton's office declined to make him available for an interview Friday. Instead, his office sent Fox 9 the following statement, which provides little insight about Dayton's current condition:
“Last month, I had two surgeries at Mayo Clinic in Rochester to resolve continuing issues with my spine, which were affecting my leg strength and my balance. I had expected to return to St. Paul a few days later.
Unfortunately, I experienced post-surgical complications, which caused damage to my lungs. At my doctors' recommendation, I have remained at Mayo for therapy to rehabilitate my lungs.
During this time, I have been in constant contact with my Commissioners and staff. I expect to return to St. Paul in the next few days.
I look forward to my final weeks as Governor, continuing to serve the people of Minnesota.”
