BCA: Officer fatally shot stabbing suspect in Hastings, Minnesota

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Hastings Monday evening. 

A Hastings police officer shot and killed a stabbing suspect, according to the BCA. 

Police were investigating a stabbing incident that had occurred between two residents at a group home in Hastings around 3:40 p.m. The victim had suffered multiple lacerations. The suspect had already fled the scene by the time officers arrived. 

Shortly before 6 p.m., the suspect was spotted near 15th Street West and Highway 61. Two officers responded and located the suspect walking on the 1500 block of Walnut Street. 

"At one point during the encounter, an officer discharged their firearm, striking the man," the BCA said in a news release. 

The suspect died at the scene. His identity has not been released. 

No one else was injured in the shooting. The officers involved were wearing body cameras and their squads were also equipped with dash cameras. 

The BCA is investigating the officer-involved shooting. The Hastings Police Department is continuing to evaluate the stabbing incident at the group home.
