A police chase in Eden Prairie ended in the death of a motorcyclist on Saturday after the driver went over the edge of the I-169 south onramp, landing on westbound I-494.

At 2:51 p.m. an Edina officer began pursuing the motorcycle for speeding on Highway 100 at 70th street. The officer pursued the motorcycle down 494 west, but stopped as the motorcyclist entered the onramp for southbound 169.

The motorcycle then hit the cement barrier on the flyover ramp, ejecting the driver. The motorcyclist, 50-year-old Christopher Lee Sundholm of Crystal, landed in the middle of 494's westbound lanes.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet, and it is unknown if alcohol was involved in the crash.

Interstate 494 was shut down for multiple hours following the incident, but has since reopened. The man was driving a 2006 Kawasaki Road Street motorcycle.
