12-year-old boy dies after running onto freeway in Elk River, Minn.

A 12-year-old boy has died after he ran across a highway and was struck by a car Sunday night in Elk River, Minnesota.

Shortly after 9 p.m., a Ford Focus was driving on Highway 169 at Main Street when a pedestrian ran across the highway.

12-year-old Ian West Kniseley of Elk River suffered life-threatening injuries and later died at the hospital.

The 36-year-old driver was not injured in the crash. According to state patrol, alcohol is not a factor in the crash.
