SOMERSET, Wisc. (FOX 9) - A 21-year-old is dead and a 31-year-old was hospitalized late Friday night after a wrong-way crash in St. Croix County, Wisconsin.
According to the St. Croix Sheriff’s Office, police received calls of a wrong-way driver at 11:11 p.m. Friday night near Somerset. At 11:17 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office was advised of a crash on Hwy. 35/64 in the town of Somerset.
According to witnesses and a preliminary investigation, Stefanie Biedler, 21, of Somerset, was eastbound on the highway and Christina Wiederin, 31, of Somerset was westbound in the eastbound lanes when the vehicles collided head-on.
Biedler’s car came to rest on the shoulder and Wiederin’s stopped in the median.
Biedler was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Wiederin was wearing a seatbelt as was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul to be treated for her injuries.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, alcohol may have been a possible factor in the crash.
The crash is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the Medical Examiner’s Office.
