Heat & humidity leads to strong storms Saturday


Saturday will be a busy day in Minnesota weather as we go from hazy, hot and humid to dodging storms. An area of low pressure approaching from the west will pull in a lot of heat and humidity on some stiff southern winds. Temperatures will in the 90s with dew points in the 70s. This heat and humidly combo will make it feel downright tropical and set the stage for the second scene, which will be the potential for strong storms.




Once the front clears the metro, we will be back to some more comfortable and less humid conditions. However, the transitional time during the front's passing will give the potential for some rather strong storms. The colder, drier and denser air mass will act like a bulldozer and plow into the hot and humid air, lifting it to a point where storms will pop. The Storm Prediction Center has portions of central Minnesota in an ENHANCED RISK of severe weather, which just shows there is a really good chance for some severe storms late Saturday and Saturday night.
