Second warmest November on record in Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - With only 2 days with temperatures below average, November 2016 will go down as the second warmest ever, behind only 2001.  This should be little surprise considering it took us 18 days just to get to the freeze mark, which is the latest first freeze on record for the Twin Cities as well. 

The most interesting part though is actually precipitation, or rather WHEN we got our precipitation.  While we did record a couple inches of snow for the month, which is well below average of our nearly 10 inch norm, most of our precipitation came in the form of rain… and at the end of the month. 

The month opened up with 17 straight days of dry weather, something that hadn’t happened all year.  But then the pattern shifted, and we managed just shy of 3 inches of liquid during the last 13 days.  That’s pretty impressive in July, during the heart of rainy season, so getting that in November is just that much more unusual. 

This continues our above average precipitation streak and we now sit nearly 9 inches above average on the year and 2016 will be one of the wettest years ever in the metro.
