A recap of Friday storms

KMSP Minneapolis, MN - Friday June 3 was an interesting day in Minnesota weather. The Storm Prediction Center had the metro in a slight risk of severe weather. This meant that there was a solid chance of some severe thunderstorms and even a couple of tornadoes. The forecasted atmospheric conditions were favoring this outcome since mid week. However, Mother Nature threw a wrench in our severe weather chances withe several rounds of heavy rain.

Friday started our wet with leftover rumblers from Thursday night. The clouds from those storms never clear and the spent atmosphere never re-charged. Therefore the severe weather was limited to mostly the areas that saw sunshine on Friday. The temperatures in the metro stayed in the metro stayed n the 60s but soared into the 80s for parts of southern Minnesota that saw Friday sunshine. As a result, the severe storms were limited to those locations and those storms quickly fizzed when they moved into the more stable, cloudy and cool regions of the state.  The metro saw less than a 1/4 inch of rain while regions to our south and southeast record well over and inch of rain. There was one confirmed tornado in Pipestone County and two reports of funnel clouds in Sterns and Wright Counties.
