- Following a record-breaking week of warm weather, northeastern Minnesota is now getting slammed with a winter encore. The National Weather Service in Duluth measured 5 inches of snow at 7 a.m. Wednesday morning, with heavy, wet snow falling in the region.

According to NWS-Duluth, rain changing over to snow Wednesday will result in snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches in northeastern Minnesota. The weather service ois projecting snow totals of 6 to 8 inches in Grand Rapids, Minn. and 8 to 12 inches in Duluth and the North Shore.

Avoid unnecessary travel

Snow will compact to ice resulting in extremely slick roads. If you must travel, allow extra time to reach your destination and keep a winter survival kit in your car. Heavy, wet snow will accumulate on trees and power lines and could result tree damage and power outages.
