VIDEO: Stop sticks used on out-of-control Minnesota school bus

Minnesota State Patrol deployed stop sticks in order to halt a 68-year-old school bus driver in Aitkin, Minn. who was having a medical emergency with 11 students aboard.

According to the Aitkin County Sheriff's office, a deputy noticed an Isle School bus traveling extremely slowly on Highway 47 on Wednesday around 3:49 p.m. The deputy followed the bus and noticed it was weaving in and out of ditches and the deputy drove into the opposite lane, lights activated, to warn other drivers. The bus stopped in the middle of the highway at one point and when the deputy approached on foot, the bus drove away.

One student aboard called 911 and reported they thought the driver was having a medical situation.

A Minnesota State Trooper put down a tire deflation device, and around 4:02 p.m. it went into a shallow ditch in Glen, about 12 miles southeast of Aitkin. None of the students or the driver were injured, but the driver, Scott Russell Gilbertson, was transported by ambulance to Riverwood Health Care Center.

Police have not disclosed what type of medical duress Gilbertson was in during the incident.
