St. Paul woman pulled from crushed car on Highway 8, dies at hospital

Three people were injured and a St. Paul, Minn. woman was killed in a crash on Highway 8 near Beaver Township, Wis. on Sunday night. According to the Polk County sheriff, the crash happened at 6:56 p.m. on Highway 8 near 125th Avenue.

The investigation found a Nissan Quest minivan driven by 23-year-old Abdiweli Mohamed of Minneapolis crossed into oncoming traffic and into the path of an eastbound Toyota Corolla. The driver of the Corolla, 23-year-old Mohammed Mohammed of Barron, Wis., moved his car into the opposite lane to avoid a collision, by Mohamed swerved his minivan back into the path of the Corolla.

A passenger of the Corolla – 28-year-old Asri Dubow of St. Paul – was ejected from the car and landed in a roadside ditch. She was taken to Regions Hospital for treatment. A second passenger of the Corolla – 22-year-old Umalkhayr Ali of St. Paul – was trapped inside the wrecked car. She was extricated from the vehicle and airlifted to Regions Hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Highway 8 was closed for 4 hours during accident reconstruction.
