Minneapolis adding 30 miles of protected bike lanes by 2020

Bicyclists in Minneapolis will soon have more safe places to ride after the city council amended its Bicycle Master Plan to add 30 miles of new protected bikeways by 2020.

Off-street paths are still the most-used bike routes, but "protected bikeways" give bicycles a clear, physical separation from car traffic. This can be done with parked cars, curbs, medians or planters.

The new plan identifies streets that would be good candidates for these protected bikeways. You can see a list of those streets and estimated costs at http://bit.ly/mplsbikelanes
