The Minnesota State Patrol confirmed a chase ended Tuesday afternoon when the driver crashed into a ditch in Plymouth, Minn., and a 4-year-old unrelated to the driver was found safe in the front seat.

A call came in at 4:57 p.m. Tuesday of an aggressive driver near Highway 62 and Interstate 494, and the car matched an "attempt to locate" call out of Minneapolis. At Interstates 394 and 494 in Minnetonka, officers attempted to pull the driver over, and unsuccessful, a chase ensued. At Highway 55 and I-494, the driver attempted to pass traffic on the shoulder and wound up in the ditch unable to get out of the mud.

The driver fought with officer before he was arrested and was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. He faces felony fleeing charges, other charges likely on the way.

A 4-year-old was found unharmed in the front seat and was returned to his family. Minneapolis police confirmed the suspect, Xavier Fritz-Smead, 24, knows the boy's family and took the child without permission. Fritz-Smead will be booked into the Hennepin County Jail on kidnapping and additional probable cause holds from the Minnesota State Patrol.
