(KMSP) - Saturday, Aug. 27 is 4-H Day at the Minnesota State Fair. After checking out the Lamb Lead Show, Todd Walker helped a young 4-H’er give his pig a bath. Now, Todd is going to need a shower (maybe two).
The best of 4-H Day at the Minnesota State Fair
4-H Lamb Lead Show (8 a.m. in the Swine Barn): 4-H’ers show their lambs and are judged on their knowledge of the wool industry. The 4-H’ers and lambs dress in matching wool outfits, many of which were made by the 4-H’ers themselves!
Minnesota 4-H Dog Agility Demonstration (9, 11 a.m., 1, 3, 5 p.m. at the outdoor demonstration area at the Pet Center): 4-H’ers will demonstrate dog agility, which showcases dogs’ briskness and confidence, as well as a handler’s control over an obstacle course designed for dogs.
Raptor Displays & Flying Demonstrations (11 a.m., 2, 4 p.m. at the DNR Garden Stage): Birds are back in 2016 – even the raptors! Capture these fascinating birds of prey in action.
4-H Minnesota Meat Grilling Contest (2, 3:30, 4 p.m. outside the Warner Coliseum): In this brand new competition, teams of 4-H’ers are given 30 minutes to prepare and grill Minnesota-grown meat and are judged on taste, appearance and knowledge of nutrition.
Their final product, incorporating competitors’ choice of processed rubs and seasonings, can be the grilled meat itself or the grilled meat worked into a salad creation.
4-H Purple Ribbon Livestock Auction (5:45 p.m. at AgStar Arena): The best purple ribbon-winning animals raised by 4-H’ers go up for auction. Capture the fast-paced chants of the auctioneers as lambs, goats, hogs and steers are sold to enthusiastic buyers.
