MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - The Minnesota Vikings and U.S. Bank Stadium officials are releasing details of their tailgating, parking and transportation plans for game days and other major events at the new stadium. Here’s what you need to know:
PARKING: Officials insist it will be very easy to find parking in downtown Minneapolis, with 32,000 parking spaces available within a 20 minute walk.
TAILGATING: Vikings Vice President of Public Affairs Lester Bagley says the team is committed to giving fans traditional tailgating options on game days. More than 600 tailgating parking spaces will be available for purchase, with lots bordered by Chicago Avenue, Washington Avenue, 10th Avenue and the light rail line.
Tailgate lots open at 7 a.m. on typical noon kickoff game days, and 6 hours before kickoff on later games. Tthe lots must be cleared by 4 hours after the game, or by midnight for late games.
UBER + LYFT: A separate drop-off and pick-up area for Uber and Lyft will be established away from the taxi stands, along 9th Avenue South between 6th Street and 7th Street. Taxis will have curbside pickup and drop-off on Park Avenue, between 5th Street and 6th Street.
BIKES: 188 complimentary bike racks will be available on U.S. Bank Stadium property. Bike lanes throughout downtown Minneapolis and near the stadium will remain open during events.
TRAFFIC FLOW: The Vikings displayed a graphic that shows how they anticipate fans will arrive at U.S. Bank Stadium. They expect 25 percent of fans will come from the west metro, 21 percent from the south metro, 21 percent from the east metro and western Wisconsin, 13 percent from the northeast metro and 20 percent from the north and northwest metro.
Stadium officials insist the traffic management plan and parking options take into account late season Twins games across downtown at Target Field.
Stadium officials expect to host 10 to 20 major events annually at U.S. Bank Stadium, including Vikings gams, concerts, monster truck rallies and more.
