Giving back: Gophers hold school supply drive at fall camp
Under PJ Fleck, one of the main missions for the University of Minnesota football team is serving and giving.
Each player does it in their own way between public speaking opportunities, hospital visits and charity work. Nowhere was it more evident than Friday at the Gophers' open football practice on campus, less than two weeks before their season-opener against South Dakota State.
While players and coaches grinded through individual drills, game situations and 11-on-11 drills, fifth-year senior Winston DeLattiboudere had cans lined up for a school supply drive. He practiced his work at defensive end while Gopher fans filing into watch Friday's open practice filled those cans with supplies for kids who need it this coming school year, which is now just around the corner.Read the full article
Vikings wrap up training camp in Eagan
The team kept practice light on Friday as the Vikings wrapped up the 2019 training camp in Eagan, Minnesota.
Players were in helmet and shorts as they eased things to a close at practice. Despite the light workload, rookies were taking the final day of training camp serious, including seventh-round wide receiver Olabisi Johnson, who is hoping to make an impact against the Seahawks.
In New Orleans, Johnson reeled in a big touchdown as the team cruised to a preseason win. Friday, he was working to build on that success.Read the full article
Minnesota beats Kentucky 2-1 at LLWS
The Coon Rapids-Andover baseball team is moving on at the Little League World Series after beating Bowling Green (Kentucky) 2-1 on Friday.
The two teams were originally scheduled to play Thursday in South Williamsport, Pa., but the game was rained out. Minnesota, representing the Midwest Region, scored two runs in the top of the second inning to take the early 2-0 lead over Kentucky.
Coon Rapids-Andover got its two runs on a triple by Tyler Phillips that scored Dylan Bloom. Phillips scored on a wild pitch while Maddie Freking was batting. Phillips' triple was one of just two hits for Minnesota in the game.Read the full article
