Vikings apply to host another Super Bowl, NFL Draft
The Minnesota Vikings are pushing hard to host another Super Bowl and hope to host the three-day NFL Draft in Minnesota too. Vikings executive vice president of public affair Lester Bagley confirmed the team has applied to host Super Bowls in 2028, 2029 or 2030 and the NFL Draft in 2024, 2025 or 2026.
Minnesota hosted Super Bowl LII as U.S. Bank Stadium in 2018. The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New England Patriots in that game, 41-33. U.S. Bank Stadium was also the host venue for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four in 2019.
Super Bowl LII brought in more than $370 million in new spending to Minnesota, according to a report from the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee.Read the full article
Gopher football sells 7,157 tickets in 24-hour, $10 flash sale
More than 7,000 tickets were sold during a 24-hour, $10 flash sale that coincided with a Gophers football day at the Minnesota State Fair . The The University of Minnesota athletic department sold 7,157 tickets for the Thursday, Aug. 29 opener against South Dakota State.
"I want to thank our fans for their tremendous response to our 24-hour sale, and I look forward to an exciting atmosphere next Thursday night at TCF Bank Stadium," said Director of Athletics Mark Coyle. "We will continue to explore creative avenues, which includes items like the new all-mobile Gopher Pass, to earn our fans back and provide a strong home-field advantage for our team."
Single-game tickets still remain for the South Dakota State game, and season tickets are on sale as well.Read the full article

Raiders edge Packers on 80-yard field in Winnipeg
Daniel Carson kicked a 33-yard field goal with 8 seconds remaining, and the Oakland Raiders earned a bizarre 22-21 preseason victory over the Green Bay Packers Thursday night on a field that was shortened to 80 yards over concerns about player safety.
End zones were marked by bright orange pylons at the 10-yard lines and there were no kickoffs. The field was reconfigured because of concerns about the areas where the goal posts for the CFL's Winnipeg franchise are usually located.
Before warmups, game officials and staff from both clubs were on the field examining the patches of turf that covered the spots where the goal posts for 110-yard CFL games were removed. The goal posts were moved from spots that would have been inside the NFL end zones.Read the full article
