Last night, the Timberwolves were blown out at home by a mediocre Utah Jazz team, 104-84.
With the 16-58 Wolves on the tail end of another lost season, last night's desultory defeat isn't noteworthy. But what is worth highlighting is the epic battle Rookie of the Year frontrunner Andrew Wiggins and emerging Utah big man Rudy Gobert waged above the rim.
The first two skirmishes were won decisively by Wiggins. Early in the game he drove to the basket and rose up for this and-1 slam over Rudy:
But things escalated in the second quarter when Wiggins threw down this quintessential poster over a big man who's widely regarded as one of the best defensive players in the game:

But shortly thereafter, Rudy not only got his revenge with this monster block -- he also let Wiggins know he wasn't thrilled about the rookie flexing his muscles after his second big dunk of the night:

After the game, Wiggins indicated he didn't intend for Gobert to take his flexing personally, telling reporters, "It's all part of the game and nothing serious."
After getting dunked on, Rudy Gobert STARRED down A. Wigginshttps://t.co/VZMxGIMNwK— N B A T A L K (@Talk_NBA_) March 31, 2015
Gobert also downplayed things.
"I'm going to get dunked on," he said. "The most important thing is to never be scared. I was waiting for him to come back and he came back pretty quick."
While the 20-year-old Wiggins may have won this battle, we look forward to the aerial war between the Wolves franchise cornerstone and the 22-year-old Gobert continuing for many seasons to come.
